The telescope was designed specifically to capture images of black holes through a planet-scale array of eight ground-baxsed radio telescopes around the world.

  • 圖片 2 /共 40 張: The color-enhanced image was taken at 11:31 p.m. PDT on May 23 2018 (2:31 a.m. EDT on May 24) as the spacecraft performed its 13th close flyby of Jupiter. At the time Juno was about 44300 miles (71400 kilometers) from the planet's cloud tops above a southern latitude of 71 degrees.

史上第一張呈現黑洞形態的影像,由事件視界望遠鏡於 2019 年 4 月 10 日所拍攝,發現的位置為室女座星系團中的梅西爾 87 星系中心。該望遠鏡是專門設計用來捕捉黑洞影像,其成像原理是使用散落於世界各地,共八座地面無線電波望遠鏡集結成口徑有如地球一樣大的虛擬望遠鏡。
