2019 新型冠狀病毒(又稱武漢肺炎),已由世界衛生組織( WHO )正式命名為「 COVID-19 」,其疫情仍持續在全球擴散,世衛秘書長譚德塞( Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus ) 11 日呼籲各國,應集結起來一起對抗武漢肺炎這個「頭號公敵」,又稱首批疫苗預計 18 個月內可以準備好。

綜合外媒報導,隨著疫情蔓延,甚至連無相關旅遊史、接觸史的外國民眾都開始遭到感染,譚德塞的相關發言亦越發沉重、謹慎。繼日前將武漢肺炎在其他國家出現的少數病例比喻為可能引發大火的小火花後, 11 日在世衛舉行的記者會上,譚德塞聲稱:「病毒帶來的後果可能比任何恐怖攻擊更嚴重,若世界不願覺醒、將此病毒視為頭號公敵的話,我不認為我們能從中記取教訓。」


譚德塞並表示,全球必須利用目前的機會之窗全力以赴、同心協力,不讓病毒有任何可趁之機,如若不然,將會有更多確診病例出現,世界也將付出更多代價。同時,由世衛領頭的全球公衛、醫藥專家也正致力於研發武漢肺炎的疫苗與治療藥物,預計首批疫苗可能在 18 個月內備妥,呼籲做好長期準備。

自從武漢肺炎疫情爆發以來,世衛的反應常被外界質疑慢半拍,除了遲至今年 1 月 30 日才將該疫病列為「國際關注公共衛生緊急事件」外,譚德塞也一再強調對中國防疫工作有信心,肯定北京做出的努力;其後又為此向全球尋求 6 億 7500 萬美元的捐款。現在隨著疫情越發嚴峻,發條似乎也不得不「緊起來」,以免更多民眾因此受害。
